Snowmobile Tours

Snowmobile Tours

Skidoo safaris from short two-hour trips to overnight journeys to the high tundra, plus heated 'bubble sleigh' aurora tours.

No journey to Lapland is complete without the exhilaration of a skidoo safari, from a couple of hours to a long overnight journey to the high tundra. Bring your driving licence if you'd like to drive; if not, you can ride pillion or share the driving. Children can ride pillion if their feet reach the footrests (around age 10), or ride in a snowmobile sleigh pulled behind the guide.

  • Day tours from 20km/1.5h to 70–90km/4–6h
  • Shared, solo or pillion / snowmobile-sleigh options
  • Northern lights tours, including heated 'bubble sleigh'
  • Overnight wilderness-cabin journeys (mainly spring)

Day tours

Driving a skidoo on tracks is easier than you might imagine and is accessible to all, whilst driving off-tracks in virgin snow is best left to the experts. Our guides keep safety paramount while selecting an appropriate degree of terrain challenge for each group. We can offer the shorter tours nearly every day in winter, run the Palojoki Wilderness Tour about once per week, and offer the Näkkälä Circular Tour primarily in March and April.

Northern lights by snowmobile

You don't need to go far from the few lights of Hetta to revel in the aurora, so our tours tend to be short, heading to the best vantage points. Most clients share a snowmobile and take turns driving. From 2022 we also offer a luxurious version where clients are pulled behind a large Alpina Sherpa machine in a warm 'bubble' sleigh — reaching the best aurora spots without a million layers or getting too cold.

Overnight journeys

We also offer overnight journeys to wilderness cabins by snowmobile. We primarily offer these in spring when we are less busy with the dogs, but it may be possible to request specific dates, particularly in combination with a multi-day husky safari.
