Dog Hotel

Dog Hotel

Doggy day-care, boarding and post-trauma recovery for local pets — looked after alongside our own working huskies.

Our day-care and boarding service helps local people look after their pets: a day-care facility for dogs to be walked, fed or watched during the working day, a boarding facility for when you go away on holiday, and a recovery centre for animals after trauma or surgery.

  • Day-care, boarding and post-surgery recovery
  • Border holding centre for pets with paperwork issues
  • High-quality working-dog food available to buy
  • Also available in Finnish for local clients

What We Offer

We frequently act as a holding centre for people stopped at the Norwegian border because their pet's papers were not in order. Rules for taking dogs into Norway, Sweden and Finland depend on whether you are travelling from or to an EU country. Dogs travelling into Finland from Norway need Echinococcus treatment (plus the standard requirements); dogs travelling into Norway or Sweden from Finland do not. When travelling to or through Sweden, new legislation requires you to report your journey/transit in advance.

Dog Food Supply

We are also happy to sell the high-quality dog food we use for our own dogs to others in the area. Working-dog quality food and puppy food are available on request, using a mixture of kibble and meat (in 10–15kg blocks, depending on the current supplier).

Boarding Kennel

A boarding dog at the Hetta Huskies kennel

If you are going away on holiday and need somewhere safe for your pet to stay, we are happy to board dogs from time to time. Our availability depends a little on the season and what else is going on at the farm, but please feel free to ask.

  • €12 / dog / day (24h) with own food; €75 / week
  • €10 / dog / day for a 2nd dog in the same cage
  • Premium-food feeding option: +€2 / day
  • Daily 10–15 min walk; optional training, grooming & nail cutting
  • One indoor heated kennel available

Where Your Dog Stays

We have one indoor heated kennel in our warm dog kitchen for dogs not so good at living outside, but most dogs that stay with us stay outside — either on a running circle chain or in a cage near our house. If they are visiting in summer, we recommend treating them with Bayvantic against mosquitos before arrival. Each kennel and cage is cleaned and prepared with fresh bedding before your dog arrives.

Care & Activities

Your dog will be taken for a 10–15 minute walk each day and, if you wish, included in our standard training program — agility trail, obedience school and trail maze. We are happy to cut nails, wash and groom them, and add them to our weekly dog medical check or thrice-weekly heat checks. We can feed your dog with their usual food, or with our own high-quality food (additional charge). For short stays or dogs with food allergies, we recommend bringing their own food, as dogs take a while to adapt to a new diet.

Health Requirements

Because your dog will be living near our dogs, training in the same areas and interacting with our guides, they must be recently dewormed, up-to-date with vaccinations, generally healthy and free of fleas and mites. If we have to treat them for fleas or mites once here, we will try to contact you and charge for the medication at pick-up. Please bring your vaccination books and a note of the deworming medication recently used.

Doggy Day Care

A Hetta Huskies guide with one of the dogs in day care

If you need help looking after your dog while you are at work, or are making a quick day trip into Norway and the dog can't travel with you, we are happy to look after them (whenever we have space) between 8am and 8pm, 7 days a week.

  • Open 8am–8pm, 7 days a week
  • €10 / dog / day (no overnight stay)
  • €8 / dog / day for a 2nd dog in the same cage
  • Nail cutting €12; socialisation training €10
  • Up-to-date vaccinations and recent deworming required

Where Your Dog Stays

Most dogs that stay with us stay outside, in a cage near our house. If they are visiting in summer, we recommend treating them with Bayvantic (also a deworming medicine, easily available from the pharmacy) before arrival to guard against mosquitos. We are happy to feed your dog during the day if you bring your own food, though most people simply feed them at home in the evening.

Health Requirements

For the health and safety of both your dog and ours, visiting dogs must be recently dewormed, up-to-date with vaccinations, generally healthy and free of fleas and mites. If we find they need treatment for fleas or mites once here, we can do that for the cost of the medicine. Please bring your vaccination books and a note of the deworming medication recently used when you drop your dog off.
