Overnight Snowmobile Tours

Overnight Snowmobile Tours

Spring-only overnight snowmobile safaris to remote wilderness cabins, with options from 40km to 110km of driving across two days.

We have a few overnight snowmobile tours, available only in our low season — from the 3rd week of March until mid-May (depending on snow). Driving the many thousands of kilometres of snowmobile trails that criss-cross this remote region is exciting and unforgettable, and a great way to get far out in nature for the best of the northern lights. Unless you are already buying a husky product from us, a minimum of 4 people is needed (you can cover the price for 4 pax to make sure the tour runs).

  • Spring / low season only — 3rd week of March to mid-May
  • Palojoki cabin — 40/60/80km over two days, from €300 pp shared
  • Aurora Cabin night — c. 20km total, authentic kota stay, from €250 pp
  • Näkkälä / Galdotievo high tundra — c. 110km over two days, from €460 pp
  • Reindeer-skin benches, central fireplace and Lappish food
  • Minimum 4 people (unless combined with a husky product)

Palojoki Trappers' Cabin (40–80km over two days)

Overnight at the Palojoki trappers' cabin with c. 40km, 60km or 80km of snowmobiling across the two days. The shortest version generally starts at 4.30pm (after the afternoon bus) and finishes before midday on the second day; the longest starts at midday and finishes after midday on the second day.

It is a good introductory snowmobile experience on not-too-challenging terrain (unless there has been recent snowfall), ideal for relaxing in a very cosy cabin in the middle of nowhere. With few other groups likely on the trails, it also makes a great exclusive private experience. The cabin sleeps a maximum of 8 but is more comfortable for 6.

Prices (40km): shared snowmobile €300 pp; solo snowmobile High Season €500, Low Season €400; child €250. (60km): shared €450 pp; solo €700/€550; child €250. (80km): shared €600 pp; solo €900/€700; child €400. Includes a snowmobile suit and boots upon prior request, a helmet and the snowmobile / sleigh as appropriate.

Overnight at the Aurora Cabin

This product is for those whose main aim is an unforgettable night in a traditional wilderness kota in winter — the snowmobile is just how we reach the otherwise inaccessible cabin on a high hilltop. It starts in the early evening so people can arrive on the afternoon bus. Although only c. 10km away, the cabin is in a pretty wild area: bear footprints have been found there in spring and we have twice seen elk outside.

The night is an authentic Lappish experience, sleeping in winter expedition sleeping bags on reindeer-covered benches around a warm central fireplace, with Lappish food served and a good time had by all. The guide stays the night and accompanies you back to base the next morning after a hearty breakfast.

Distance & c. Duration: a c. 10km snowmobile tour each day and a night in a traditional wilderness kota (an additional 20km loop may be possible the following morning). Price: shared snowmobile €250 pp; solo snowmobile High Season €400, Low Season €300; child €200.

Näkkälä / Galdotievo High Tundra (c. 110km over two days)

This 2-day tour combines our high tundra and Näkkälän trails, and participants need to be fit to enjoy the long days. It starts at 10am on the first day and returns around 4.30–5pm on the second. There is a choice of two cabins depending on group size, style preference and availability — one a wilderness cabin with no electricity or running water in the Saami village of Näkkälä, the other a set of cabins with electricity and running water near the last settlement before the Norwegian border. It is hard to book last minute, as cabin availability is often limited.

Distance & c. Duration: c. 110km across two days, with a night in one of two cabin options. Price: shared snowmobile €460 pp; solo snowmobile High Season €660, Low Season €560; child €400. Includes a snowmobile suit and boots upon prior request, a helmet and the snowmobile / sleigh as appropriate.
