There are a vast number of snowmobile routes just around Hetta. At the height of the season we tend to run snowmobile tours only early morning or late afternoon, since the machines are mainly needed to back up our daytime husky tours. If you see no availability a week before arrival, give us a call — we put tours on sale once we know we have the capacity.

Classic Hetta Daytime Trails
Our standard 20km trail heads out from the farm towards the airport on a fun rolling section of small hills under the powerlines, then loops back across the large expanse of Lake Ounasjärvi before returning to base. We have two main alternatives — one used on our standard 30km husky safari and one to our hilltop Aurora cabin — with the route at the guide's discretion. Tell us where you have already been and we will take you somewhere new!
Distance & c. Duration: 20km & c. 1.5 hr safari. Person on a shared snowmobile: €80 pp; one person per snowmobile: €140; person in an open snowmobile sleigh: €40 pp. Includes a helmet, the snowmobile / sleigh as appropriate, driving instructions and a guide on a lead snowmobile. Snowmobile clothing and boots can be rented for €5/piece and €2.50 for gloves / hats / socks / buffs.
Palojoki Wilderness Cabin Tour
A really fun tour to a remote, rustic wilderness cabin reachable only by skidoo or dogsled in winter, or canoe or kayak in summer. We start on the municipality's marked snowmobile trails, soon branch off onto less-used trails towards the tiny historic Saami village of Suntajärvi, then skirt the edge of the Tarvantovaara Wilderness Area to reach the small collection of trappers' cabins.
We take a quick break in the cabin for hot chocolate and cookies, and if time permits you can help the guide with a little snow work to keep the cabin and dog cages accessible and safe. Distance & c. Duration: 40km & c. 2–3 hour safari. Person on a shared snowmobile / heated bubble sleigh: €140 pp; one person/snowmobile High Season €240, Low Season €210; adult or child in an open snowmobile sleigh: €100. Includes a helmet, guide, snowmobile / sleigh and hot drinks in the wilderness cabin.
Heated Bubble Sleigh
For the heated bubble sleigh we charge for a minimum of 4 people, since it needs different snowmobiles and drivers; you can, of course, cover the price for 6 pax to make sure the tour runs. Person in a heated bubble sleigh: €150 pp; in a heated bubble sleigh on the Northern Lights Safari: €200 pp.
Aurora Snowmobile-Snowshoe Adventure Package
For something a little special, try our snowmobile-snowshoe combination package to our hidden aurora cabin on a secluded hilltop in the middle of nowhere. We reach the base of the wooded hill on our shared snowmobiles (we'll teach you to drive them safely) or our bubble sleigh, then change into snowshoes for the short hike up. We relax there over hot coffee and cookies before descending to the snowmobiles and heading back to base.
Though relatively close to Hetta, it really feels like the middle of nowhere — we have even seen elk carcasses and bear footprints right outside this cabin in spring. Distance & c. Duration: 20km & c. 4 hours. Per person price: €200. Group size: normally offered to groups of 6 or more people. Includes a helmet, guide, snowmobile / sleigh and hot drinks in our aurora cabin.
