In Hetta

Cafe Peura, within the Fell-Lapland Nature Centre, opened in 2019 and has fast become a firm favourite, with an excellent chef and food. It offers set lunches and a variety of cakes, waffles and more from c. 11am – 6pm. The nature centre is 2km from the centre of town, at the base of the ski tracks and the start of the hike up Jyppyrä; the cafe's chef rents enduro bikes and E-bikes and runs a bike repair workshop.

The Post Office's Cafe (Erämaakota) is also a flower shop, the region's main bakery, a souvenir shop and petrol station, with free open internet. The Grill, open until 8 or 9pm most days, sells fries, burgers, hot-dogs and drinks and tends to stay open even when other places close for holidays. Hotel Hetta, on the shores of Lake Ounasjärvi, serves food daily and is known for particularly good pizzas. Hotel Jussantupa, opposite the supermarket, serves food daily, with a bar and reception open through the day. Note: Cafe Silja, the popular reindeer-burger cafe, closed around 2017 — Cafe Peura is now the best option.

North of Hetta

Galdotieva sits near the Norwegian border, 27 kilometres from Hetta towards Kautokeino and right along the snowmobile routes. It offers accommodation and a good setting for meetings and celebrations.

West of Hetta (In and towards Kilpisjärvi)

Rajabaari Neste Karesuvanto: the petrol station on the Finnish side of Karesuvanto is multifunctional — a cafe, restaurant, pharmacy, parcel courier, souvenir and outdoor shop, with a sauna and meeting rooms for rent.

Ropin Pirtti offers cabin accommodation and a cafe selling good doughnuts and home-made goods at Ropinsalmi, about 60 km south of Kilpisjärvi en route to Karesuando, on the shore of Lake Naimakkajärvi. Open spring–summer (April to mid September), with mainly lactose-free products and gluten-free options. Retkeilykeskus (Kilpisjärvi Hiking Centre) has a fully licensed restaurant seating 200, including the traditional Siilastupa where the company started in 1937.

East of Hetta

Fellhotel Vuontispirtti, situated in Ylikyrö village in the south-eastern corner of the Pallas-Ounas National Park, is a parish-owned hotel, camping and caravan site, restaurant, café and souvenir shop venue with guide services.
