Our family owns a number of wilderness cabins used, in season, as refreshment stops or overnight points for clients on winter husky safaris. Out of season, one or more may be available for weekly rent or for an overnight stay as part of a kayak journey.
- Ounasjarvi cabin: sleeps 2 (bed spaces for 4); wood-burning sauna for up to 8; shallow beach great for small children
- Kellotijarvi cabin: main cabin sleeps 4-6, plus bunk rooms and sauna bed for a total of 9-11 people; perfect for fishing
- Palojoki cabins: two side by side; small sleeps 3 (guides), large sleeps 8 (safari groups); wilderness toilet and log shed; ideal for paddlers
- Tarvantojoki / Nammalakuru cabin: sleeps 12-16; remote riverbend reached by a c. 5km off-trail walk; great for fishing and berry picking
Cabin on Lake Ounasjarvi
This cabin, owned by Pasi's parents, sleeps 2 in comfort but has bed spaces for four. The main building has one room serving as living and sleeping space and a changing room, plus the wood-burning sauna itself (which seats up to 8). A separate logshed, wilderness toilet and outdoor laavu complete the property; the laavu / outdoor fireplace was built in the summer of 2014. It is a great spot for a small family in summer: the shallow beach is perfect for small children to swim at, and the cabin is easily reached by boat or foot.
Cabin at Kellotijarvi, on the Muoniojoki River
The main cabin sleeps 4 - 6 people in two rooms. An adjacent building (not shown) has bunkbed accommodation for a further 4 people in two separate rooms and the sauna, (shown below the main cabin), has an additional single bed. Hence, altogether a group of 9 - 11 people can sleep here. This is a perfect place for fishing.
2 cabins on the Palojoki River
Two wilderness cabins stand side by side on a horse-shoe bend of the Palojoki river, in the middle of nowhere. The smaller cabin (shown below during its building phase) sleeps 3 and is used mainly by guides in winter; the larger sleeps 8 and is for overnight safari client groups. There is no sauna yet, but there is a wilderness toilet and a log shed. Located roughly mid-way between Leppajarvi and Palojoensu, they make a great overnight location for paddlers.
Cabin on the Tarvantojoki River
We hope to put the beautiful old Nammalakuru cabin and storage building (shown below) back up on our land beside the Tarvantojoki River in the summer of 2015. This riverbend location is in the middle of nowhere - a c. 5km off-trail walk in summer between Kultima and Kuttanen, requiring decent navigation skills, or a journey across the river from the Kultimaa road. The cabin sleeps 12-16 and is great for fishing or berry picking.
