Sponsorship Status Overview

Sponsorship Status Overview

Profiled sponsors and their happy mutts - the working dogs, retirees and puppies currently sponsored, and the people behind them.

Sponsorship costs vary with the dog's age. We keep these sums realistic rather than nominal, so sponsors feel they are truly supporting that dog's care at the farm rather than making a token donation. We price the puppy and retired categories lower than working dogs, since children are often drawn to the younger dogs and working dogs can be a less attractive option overall, even though they arguably need it most. We are hugely grateful for any support towards the whole-life care of our dogs.

  • Three sponsorship categories: working dogs, retired dogs and puppies
  • Puppy and retired sponsorships are priced lower than working-dog sponsorships
  • Profiles pair each dog with the real sponsor's story
  • Many sponsors are former clients, interns and guides who fell in love with a particular dog

Currently sponsored working dogs

Some of the dogs sponsored in this category are amongst our best; others are just ones that clients and guides have fallen in love with during their time at Hetta Huskies: Amber, Firn, Lumi, Elara, Titan, Soda and Sisu. Others include Balto, Princess and Mercury-Mick.

Amber is sponsored by Celine & Jerome, whose hearts lie with the A-pups; she is a gentle giant and wonderful sled dog. Sisu - whose name means strength and bravery in Finnish, and who was born with a squished chest but became a race dog - is sponsored by the James Family for their friend Noah, a fitting tribute after his recovery from a freak accident.

Currently sponsored retired dogs

This category includes those retired because of old age or poor health: Diva, Kurpitsa, Tore, Elting, Hendrix, Yesper & Yasper, Pluto, Saturn, Cherry, Sanna, Leon and Bono.

Diva, almost 12, has an amazing work ethic and is one of our best leaders, sponsored by Malina. Tore came to us from Switzerland and, though a senior at 13, is as happy as ever to run, sponsored by Burri & Sylvia Rieke. Hendrix is our oldest husky who still runs fairly often and is an excellent dog to pair with younger, less experienced pups. Yesper & Yasper are so strong that theirs is the only cage we always send a client to with a guide, with the intention of walking back one dog each.

Currently sponsored puppies

Dogs in this category are still training to become working dogs: Sonic, Star, Jinx, Solo, Sierra, Skylar, Siren and Scamp.

Sonic is sponsored by Francesco & Giulia, who own a Siberian husky themselves. Star was chosen by Karoliina Kaseva, who visited in 2018 and sponsored a puppy because her father is allergic to dogs. Jinx, the smallest of her litter and an escape artist as a pup, was sponsored by Clement who interned in the 2019-20 season. Scamp and Siren were sponsored by grandparents for their grandchildren Tapio and Lily, partly to help husky farms in Lapland through the pandemic.

The people behind the sponsorships

Many of our sponsors are former clients, interns and guides. The Frei family have been involved with us since 2013, have adopted four of our dogs and sponsored several more, and now support our old leaders Sanna, Leon and Bono. Anna's mother Patricia sponsors Princess, and her father sponsors Mercury-Mick. Rose, a former trainee guide, supports Balto and Mars because she loves that our dogs always come first and we don't put a dog down just because it can no longer work so well.
