Life here is all about dogs. We eat with them, sleep with them, train them, heal them and care for them 24/7. Growing up here is probably a little different to growing up in most families.
- A behind-the-scenes look at the family running the farm
- Eliel – raised among the dogs, fearless and bilingual by age four
- Kayaking at 3 weeks, first mountain on his first birthday
- Driving his own husky team by around age four
Eliel
Eliel grew up hearing dogs bark and watching them posture around him. He has a natural way with dogs and absolutely no fear, so he has been our tool for training those who are 'too interested' in small humans.
At around 2 he was happy to get involved with clients, even leading whole groups down to the guides unaccompanied. At four he is less compliant with requests to dress up or entertain, but that too is part of the norm. He speaks two languages fluently and is learning a third.
Growing up outdoors
He first kayaked at around 3 weeks (tied to his mom) and is soon to outgrow his 'spot' – the front gear compartment! He climbed his first mountain (in Norway) on his first birthday, tied to his snowshoeing mom while the rest of the group ski-mountaineered, and has been out on safari with clients from his earliest days.
He began driving his own team (sleigh attached to the one behind) at around 3.5 years and his own sleigh unaccompanied at around 4 – late compared to his skill on motor vehicles, which interest him more. He was competently driving his dad around the farm at 2 and driving snowmobiles with help by 3. A slightly crazy life, but for him it is the norm.
