In essence: rental prices are charged in advance, and you must present ID and provide contact details to rent from us. The renter must return the equipment at the end of the rental period; late returns incur an additional charge per the price list. For 2-day+ rentals we may require a damage deposit by credit card plus the driver's licence / photo ID of one member of the party. Lost / non-returned items incur the full replacement cost of that item (unless the item is worth less than the liability waiver cover selected).

Maintenance, Tuning and Responsibility
The customer agrees to return the equipment in the same good condition as received, ordinary wear and tear excepted, and to repair or replace lost, stolen, damaged or broken bicycles or parts. The bikes are professionally checked and deemed fit before your arrival; even so, on receipt please check the bike, flag any deficiencies / scratches to a company representative (as with a standard car hire) and ride a test circuit in the yard.
Bikes may need tuning or maintenance during the rental, especially on longer or more extreme tours, at the renter's expense. We cover damage from equipment failures beyond the renter's control – e.g. damage during transport by Hetta Huskies or from worn parts, including structural deficiencies such as damaged frames, worn bottom brackets, suspension and wheel hubs. We are not responsible for gear tune-ups, punctures, broken spokes, chains, derailleurs, drop-outs, wheel rim damage, torn saddles or stripped threads from rider use or misuse. There is only one mechanic's workshop in Hetta, with the next nearest likely in Ylläs or Levi.
Customer Liability & Liability Reduction Options
Use of rental equipment is always at the tenant's own risk. The customer assumes liability for any damage to or loss of personal property and for accident / injury to others, but Hetta Huskies can provide, at extra cost, a damage waiver that reduces your liability. The €10/day waiver covers the first €100 of damage and repair costs towards your bike. To also cover the pump, repair kit, helmet and any rented panniers, take the partial damage limitation package, which covers all items rented by one person from €25/day, with a lower daily cost on longer rentals.
Waiver costs by rental period (Bike / Bike & Accessories / Roadside Pick-up / €250 Damage + Roadside): 3-Hour €10 / €25 / €10 / €25; 24-Hour €10 / €25 / €10 / €25; 2-Day €20 / €40 / €20 / €50; 3-Day €30 / €50 / €30 / €60; 1 Week €45 / €60 / €45 / €100; 2 Week €50 / €75 / €50 / €120.
Roadside Rescue Insurance & Theft
You can add 'emergency pick-up' insurance in case you need rescuing from a road-head and returning to base, e.g. for mechanical issues. This costs a further €10/day and can only be added on top of basic excess reduction insurance; we strongly recommend it for anyone attempting the Hetta-Pallas bike route. Otherwise you are liable for the transfer charges of picking you up from an unplanned emergency access point, and we cannot guarantee staff and vehicles will be available.
In case of theft, a formal Police Report must be lodged and a copy sent to us to activate the insurance. We strongly recommend you always carry a personal accident or travel insurance policy. Subleasing of rental equipment is prohibited and immediately terminates the contract.
Bike Rental Cancellations
All cancellation requests must be received in writing. 30 days or more prior to your start date you have 3 options: switch to another date (subject to availability) with no fees; keep your balance on file against a similar future trip within one year; or cancel and receive a full refund for non-electric bike deposits (there is no deposit refund for electric bike bookings). 15–29 days before your start date: switch dates with no fees, keep your balance on file for up to one year, or cancel and receive a 35% refund for non-electric bike deposits. 14 days or less: no refunds, no credit.
