Health Services

Health Centre: open during normal working hours, Monday to Friday. Visitors with a standard EU health card can visit the doctor or dentist at the same cost as a Finnish local. Basic bloodwork and standard tests can be done here; for more complicated tests you'll be advised to go to Muonio (100km) or Rovaniemi (300km).

Dentist: based in the health centre, with visits on the same basis as locals for EU health card holders.

Veterinary Clinic: open each weekday between c. 8am and 4pm, with vets on call in the evenings and roughly every third weekend. For other weekends you may need to travel to Muonio (c. 100km), Kittila (c. 200km) or Sodankyla (c. 300km). If you want to pop to Norway for the day, our dog hotel can look after your dog.

Physio Hetta: experience the amazing outdoors followed by a relaxing massage and physiotherapy — osteopathic massage and kinesiology taping are available.

Other Amenities

Library: located on the left of the school building (follow signs for 'Kirjasto'). Open Mondays 12-7, Tuesdays and Wednesdays 10-4, Thursdays 12-7 and Fridays 10-4. To join, fill in a form and provide a current Finnish address — no ID required. They have a small selection of English books, and a library bus also visits Hetta periodically.

Launderette: in the second block of the shopping complex on the road to Norway.

Municipality Building: downtown, almost opposite the 'red shop'. Open Mondays to Fridays with free, reliable wifi, power points, comfortable sofas and a PC for those without a laptop.

Banks: one bank in the centre of Hetta with an automat outside. Petrol Stations: the post office is the main station; a second sits at the junction to Norway. Garages: two main garages in Hetta plus one at Palojoensuu so you don't need a tow all the way to Hetta.

Polar Lento: Flying Service

Polar Lento has operated in the Kasivarsi region for more than 30 years, flying customers to the fell lakes in Kasivarsi and to Swedish Lapland. Destinations include some of the best fishing waters and finest hiking trails. They also rent rubber boats and canoes and take you to see the amazing views of the Kilpisjarvi fells from the air.
