Kids Camp is a fun, interactive morning or afternoon on the farm for children aged around 8 to 12, working with and learning about the dogs and the pups. What we do depends on the weather and the age range of the dogs (and children!) at the time. It is mainly a summer product, but may be possible at other times of year depending on staff availability.
- Designed for children around 8 to 12 years old
- Free-runs with the pups, walks with older dogs, agility course and GEE HAW maze
- Learn how the dogs' health is checked and help massage and train the gentle dogs
- Afternoon groups can help prepare and give out the evening feed
- Parents welcome to join in
What the children do
The children might, for instance, join in with morning free-runs with the pups or some slower walks with the older dogs. If the mosquitos aren't too bad, we may also do a little training on the agility course or in the GEE HAW maze. Or even, with the kick bikes (older children).
The children will each learn about the importance of continuing care for the dogs and how we assess their health each week. They can help us to massage some of the older dogs and to do some obedience training with some of the gentle dogs.
Choosing the right dogs
None of our dogs bite, but some are calmer than others, and with c. 180 dogs to choose from we can always find the right ones for your child to ensure a positive, affirming experience.
Children who come in the afternoon can help prepare and give out the evening feed - something three or four local children come and help with over the summer, as it is a fun way to interact with the dogs while feeling useful around the farm.
Parents and languages
Although this is a children-targeted product, parents can also participate if that is going to make the product more fun for the child. In that way too, younger children may also be able to take part. Kids Camp is generally run in English, although we may be able to offer it in different languages for larger groups.
