So far, the youngest clients on a 5-day tour were 8 and 9, and the oldest was 79. Everything has gone well, but we thought a family-targeted tour might be nicer for the other adult guests.
So we have designed a family week package for late Spring — the best time for young explorers, with its longer, warmer days — suitable for children as young as 8. It includes 4 days of mushing (2 nights on the farm, 2 in wilderness cabins and 2 in a family hotel), 1 day of arctic activities, and full board and accommodation either side of the adventure week.
- Designed for families with children as young as 8
- 4 days of mushing plus 1 day of arctic activities
- Phone-free focus with board games, nature trail, elf-den, GEE-HAW maze & treehouse
- 7-day package with pre- and post-safari nights and free-day activity options
- Run in late spring (4th week of March – end of April) for longer, warmer days
- Children old enough drive their own team; younger ones can be seated
A break from electronics
We assume families mushing with their children want to use this time to take a break from electronics and experience as much as possible with the dogs and in nature. We have traditional board games, knowledge games and sled-dog children's books to pass the time, though most of it will be taken up with on-farm activities with the dogs. There is also a nature trail, an 'elf-den' (a wilderness shelter), a GEE-HAW maze, a treehouse and much more for younger family members to explore.
Families with more than one child under 8 can book one as a seated child and the second as a solo sleigh, with the children taking turns driving and sitting.
The 7-day package & your free day
The 7-day package suggested for this product includes a pre-safari night and the first night after the introductory day of mushing back at the farm. The 2 following nights are spent in wilderness cabins on safari, and the final two days are spent in a local family hotel with activities back at the farm and in the local area during the free day.
There are three activity-package options for the free day: a cultural package (a 3-hour reindeer farm visit, a visit to the local Sami nature centre, and an evening of ice-hole swimming at a private sauna cabin); an arctic sports package (a 20km snowmobile ride, snowshoeing, plus XC skiing, fat-bikes or fat-maxes); or simply more time at the farm working alongside the guides. An ice-hole swimming evening can be added to either of the latter two.
General Information
Total Package Duration: 7 days including arrival and departure day. Number of Days of Mushing: 4 days. Additional Arctic Activities: 1 day. Availability: From the 4th week of March through until the end of April.
There are no separate child and adult prices on the longer tours since we assume that each participating child will drive their own dog team. We recommend booking packages when visiting with children, so that everything to do with your pre-safari night (on the farm) and post-safari night (in a local family-run hotel) is taken care of.
